Course Description: Telehealth and telepsychology are growing fields. Telepsychology is not a new clinical specialty, instead it is the evolution of psychology in the modern world. Telepsychology includes the use of emails, telephone calls, and videoconferencing. Telepsychology promotes social justice, equality, and can provide psychological services to underserved communities. There are legal, ethical, technological, and clinical factors associated with telepsychology. This course discusses the aforementioned factors and lays the groundwork that should be used to build, develop, implement, and strengthen the practice of telepsychology.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify positive factors and possible pitfalls associated with telepsychology
- Summarize and evaluate the ethical and legal concerns associated with telepsychology
- Demonstrate and give examples of the elements of a comprehensive informed consent document related to telepsychology
- Summarize the elements needed for telepsychology and the ability to develop and practice telepsychology
