How Many Questions are on the BCBA Exam?

The BCBA exam has 185 questions across all content areas of the most current task list. Each multiple choice question has 4 answer choices. Students have 4 hours to complete the examination. The BCBA certification examination is only available at authorized Pearson VUE testing sites worldwide. The examination is administered using a computer-based testing (CBT) format through Pearson VUE.

What is the BCBA Exam?

BCBA stands for Board Certified Behavior Analyst. A BCBA's main responsibility is to provide clinical services, consultation and supervision to individuals receiving Applied Behavior Analysis therapy (ABA). A BCBA may work in a variety of different environments with a variety of different individuals. Many BCBAs work closely to provide clinical services, consultation and supervision to individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) or other developmental disabilities. Behavior Analysts may work in clinic-based, home-based, or school-based settings.

What are the BCBA Exam Requirements?

In order to register to take the BCBA exam, you must have a graduate-level degree in psychology, special education or another related field. In addition to a graduate degree, an individual must also complete their supervised fieldwork experience. Candidates who apply for the BCBA® exam on or after January 1, 2022 can choose from two, not three, fieldwork options: Supervised Fieldwork and Concentrated Supervised Fieldwork.

How to Get BCBA Supervision Hours

If you want to become a Board Certified Behavior Analyst, there are several requirements you must complete before registering for the BCBA exam. First, you must have completed a graduate degree in psychology, special education or another related field. Additionally, you must complete one of two supervised fieldwork options. The two supervised fieldwork options are Supervised Fieldwork and Concentrated Supervised Fieldwork. Supervised Fieldwork requires supervisees to complete 2000 total experience hours and receive supervision for a minimum of five percent of experience hours per month.
