Course Description: Many school-based behavioral health services are provided indirectly to students through consultation with school staff, teachers, and parents. Behavioral consultation (BC) is a service delivery framework that has received empirical support and attention regarding its effectiveness as a strategy used in schools. The present study aimed to evaluate the acceptability of videoconferencing (VC) with teachers as an alternative to face-to-face (FtF) consultative communication. Researchers found that teacher acceptability ratings of VC increased to “highly acceptable” after participating in the study. Future research should further evaluate the cost-effectiveness, effectiveness, and accessibility of VC as an alternative to, or replacement for, FtF consultation.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify the purpose of the study and the methods related to adopting VC as a new BC medium
- Analyze the 3 factors that should be considered before implementing videoconferencing as a medium for school-based consultation services
- Integrate the 3 study limitations with the 3 identified areas of future research
