Bio: Jennifer Kolb, LCSW; Social Work Consultant, reviewed and determined the course meets requirements for continuing education in the field of social work. This course is appropriate for masters and clinical level social workers. Jennifer graduated with a Master’s degree in Social Work with a specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Louisville, Kentucky. She specializes in school-based psychotherapy with children and adolescents, as well as licensing exam coaching and preparation.

1. Compulsive Overeating: Up to one-third of the U.S. population is overweight, and there are a variety of factors that contribute to compulsive overeating: both behavioral and emotional. This workshop is designed to promote a multi-modal format for treating compulsive overeating. It presents some of the contributors to overeating, including biology, environment and psychology, all of which must be assessed and treated. Treatment models are presented to address the complexity of these contributors, and thus include group, individual, cognitive, emotional and 12-step modalities. 

Learning Objectives:

1. Identify symptoms of compulsive overeating.
2. Correctly assess and diagnose a client coping with issues of compulsive overeating.
3. Analyze the complexity of factors which contribute to overeating to best match a treatment plan for the individual client.
4. Integrate a range of treatment modalities and referrals based upon the client's symptoms and clinical presentation.

2. Eating Disorders: In this presentation, we explore the formal diagnostic criteria and typical presenting symptoms of eating disorders, and delineate the differential diagnoses between eating disorders and other clinical syndromes. We identify the various mental health professionals who interact with this population, evaluate the appropriateness of different treatment settings, and set forth a variety of theoretical lenses and models (e.g., psychodynamic, systems, feminist, behavioral) that conceptualize assessment and treatment procedures. Also presented are treatment issues for special populations, including children, males, and clients for whom self-injury or suicide is present.

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

1. Identify the current DSM criteria for Eating Disorders as well as biological, sociological, and addiction models.
2. Identify and name common co-occurring disorders and techniques of differentiation.
3. Describe his/her role on a treatment team and in different treatment settings.
4. Use appropriate assessment measures and make decisions about treatment planning that meet client needs.
5. Develop treatment interventions for special clients, including children, males and other at-risk populations.

3. Assessment & Treatment of Children-Adolescents with Various Eating Disorders: This course reviews the current literature on several different eating disorders: Anorexia Nervosa (AN), Bulimia Nervosa (BN), Binge Eating Disorder (BED), Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID), and other specified feeding or eating disorders. Eating disorders have a long history, with the first documented description of AN occurring in 1689. This course reviews the history, clinical presentation, etiology and information for differentiating between these eating disorders. Recommended treatments include initial outpatient interventions and treating physical and medical conditions as needed.

Learning Objectives:

1. Become familiar with the history of eating disorders
2. Recognize the clinical diagnostic criteria and presentation of AN, BN, BED, ARFID, and other eating disorders
3. Review clinical standards and guidelines for assessment and treatment of individuals with eating disorders
