This course is appropriate for masters and clinical level social workers. Jennifer graduated with a Master’s degree in Social Work with a specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Louisville, Kentucky. She specializes in school-based psychotherapy with children and adolescents, as well as licensing exam coaching and preparation.

Course Description:
The purpose of this workshop is to provide mental health professionals with a working knowledge and understanding of the new diagnostic system. The DSM-5 represents a fundamental shift in how disorders are conceptualized and diagnosed. This six-hour continuing education workshop will provide an overview of the DSM-5 revisions, including its development process, changes to the organizational structure, other innovations such as spectrum disorders, the new utilization of level of acuity, and major revisions to existing diagnoses, as well as the introduction of new disorders from the previous DSM IV-TR.Â
Learning Objectives:
- Recognize DSM-5 diagnoses, diagnostic criteria, and classifications.
- Identify how previous diagnoses have been renamed, revised, and reclassified in the DSM-5.
- Apply understanding of the DSM-5 diagnoses to assessments and diagnosis in complex psychosocial contexts.
- Explain the cultural, theoretical, and practical implications of the diagnostic revisions and additions.

Course Completion Requirements:
Attendees must be present for the duration of the training as evidenced by the attendance report generated by Zoom, as well as complete the course evaluation to receive a certificate of credit.Â

The course evaluation is accessible in your student account. After completing the training, log into your AATBS student account to complete the course evaluation.Â
How certificate is issued:
Upon verification of attendance and completion of the course evaluation, each participant will be able to access a personal CE certificate of attendance in their student account.

Association for Advanced Training in the Behavioral Sciences, provider #1085, is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved as ACE providers. State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit. AATBS maintains responsibility for this course. ACE provider approval period: 06/19/2021 – 06/19/2024. Social workers completing this course receive 6 Clinical continuing education credits.
